RECEPTION AT HAMBURG TOWN HALL

We are very proud to extend to all our guests a very special invitation from the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to a reception in the "Kaisersaal" in the Rathaus. It is a great honour for ICMA to have the privilege of being invited by the Senate. The Senate is the highest governmental body of the city and consists of 10 Senators (equivalent to ministers or secretary of state) with the Mayor as primus inter pares. The Senator of Justice, Dr. Till Steffen, will welcome the delegates of ICMA XVII and their accompanying persons on behalf of the Mayor and the people of Hamburg. The fact, that ICMA XVII has been invited to the Rathaus indicates how much the conference is supported by the city and that the importance of international maritime arbitration is appreciated.

The venue is spectacular. The town hall was built from 1886 to 1897 in a sumptuous neo-Renaissance style. The impressive stairwell and the marvellously decorated rooms reflect the republican and independent history of the town.
